Flaky, all-butter golden pastry filled with a delicately spiced sweet filling, baked until crisp and aromatic.
Knead the flour, yeast, salt, oil, and water into a soft dough for 10 minutes.
Cover and prove about 1 hour, until doubled.
Mix the beef, grated onion, tomato paste, allspice, and 3/4 tsp salt into a smooth paste.
Roll walnut-sized balls of dough into 8 cm circles and pinch the edges upward to form little square boats.
Spoon the meat filling into each boat, spreading it flat.
Bake at 220C for 12-15 minutes until the edges are golden.
Serve the open meat pies warm.
