Flaky, all-butter golden pastry filled with a delicately spiced sweet filling, baked until crisp and aromatic.
Whisk the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt with the warm water and arak into a thick, sticky batter.
Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 1/2 hours until bubbly and doubled.
With oiled hands, pull off walnut-sized pieces of dough and stretch each into a rough ring.
Fry the rings in hot oil (180C), a few at a time, turning until deep golden on both sides.
Drain on kitchen roll and dust generously with icing sugar; serve warm.
