Tender boiled cauliflower florets smothered in Poland's beloved golden toasted buttered breadcrumbs (bułka tarta z masłem), a classic side dish gracing every Polish dinner table.
Cut the cauliflower into large, bite-sized florets, trimming any tough stalks. Rinse well in cold water.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil with the salt and sugar (which preserves the crisp sweetness and colour). Add the florets and cook for 10 to 12 minutes until tender yet holding their shape firmly (al dente).
While the cauliflower drains, melt the butter in a wide frying pan over medium heat. When foaming, add the breadcrumbs, stirring continuously for 2 to 3 minutes until bubbling, fragrant, and deep nutty amber.
Arrange the steaming cauliflower florets on a heated serving platter. Immediately spoon the sizzling, golden buttered breadcrumbs over the top, letting them crunch against the tender florets, and serve.
