Sun-ripened Hungarian tomato salad sliced thinly with sweet white onions in a tangy, sweet vinegar dressing, finished with cracked black pepper.
Slice the ripe tomatoes into 5mm thick rounds. Slice the onion into thin translucent rings and separate them.
Whisk cold water, vinegar, sugar, sunflower oil, and salt in a bowl until the sugar dissolves completely into a clear dressing.
Arrange alternating layers of sliced tomatoes and onion rings in a shallow salad bowl, seasoning each layer with black pepper.
Pour the sweet-tangy dressing over the vegetables, cover, and chill for 20 minutes before serving alongside Hungarian goulash or pörkölt.
