A distinguished culinary classic crafted with authentic techniques and finest ingredients, offering rich depth of flavour and elegant presentation.

Ingredients

  • • 700 g cooking apples, (peeled, cored and thinly sliced)
  • • 300 g blackberries, (stalks removed)
  • • 100 g white granulated sweetener
  • • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • • 1/2 tsp ground mixed spice
  • • 80 g plain flour
  • • 20 g white granulated sweetener
  • • a pinch of salt
  • • 30 g reduced-fat spread
  • • 40 g rolled oats
  • • 2 medium eggs, (beaten)

Preparation Steps

1
Phase 1

Preheat the oven to 190°C.

2
Phase 2

Place the apples and blackberries in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle over the sweetener, cornflour and mixed spice and mix well. Transfer to an ovenproof dish and spread the fruit out evenly.

3
Phase 3

Place the flour, sweetener, salt and reduced-fat spread in a mixing bowl and, using your fingers, rub together until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the oats, then add the eggs and mix until combined.

4
Phase 4

Use a tablespoon to place spoonfuls of the mixture onto the fruit, leaving gaps for the fruit to bubble through.

5
Phase 5

Place in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, until the top is lightly golden. Remove from the oven and cover the top loosely with a sheet of kitchen foil. Return to the oven for a further 20 minutes, until the apples are tender, the fruit is bubbling and the top is golden brown. Serve warm, alone or with custard.
